Frequently Asked Questions

What types of charges does NextLaw handle?
NextLaw specializes exclusively in Ontario speeding tickets, stunt driving charges (s. 172 HTA), careless driving, racing, distracted driving, no insurance, and other Highway Traffic Act offences. We also provide U.S. Entry Waiver services. Traffic defence is our entire practice — not a side service.
How much does it cost to hire a stunt driving lawyer?
Every case is different, and NextLaw offers a free initial consultation. Our clients consistently report that the cost of representation is far less than the long-term insurance increases and penalties from a conviction. Call 1-833-639-8529 for a no-obligation quote.
Will my insurance go up if I get a speeding ticket?
Almost always, yes — and the increase typically costs 3 to 5 times more than the fine itself. A minor speeding conviction can add $1,000+ to your premiums. Use our Speeding Ticket Insurance Calculator to see your projected impact.
Can I fight a stunt driving charge in Ontario?
Yes. Stunt driving charges are serious — minimum $2,000 fine, up to 2-year suspension, possible jail — but they can be defended. Common strategies include challenging radar evidence, negotiating reduced charges, and identifying procedural errors.
Does NextLaw handle cases outside of Toronto?
We appear in every Provincial Offences Court across Ontario — Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, Barrie, London, Windsor, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and every jurisdiction in between.
Who are the legal representatives at NextLaw?
NextLaw was founded by Dan Joffe, a licensed Ontario lawyer holding a JD/MBA from Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business, and Jon Cohen, the province’s most experienced traffic law defence representative, licensed by the Law Society of Ontario.
What is the difference between a speeding ticket and a stunt driving charge?
A speeding ticket (s. 128 HTA) carries fines and demerit points. A stunt driving charge (s. 172 HTA) is far more serious — triggered when driving 40+ km/h over in zones under 80, or 50+ km/h over in zones 80+. Stunt driving means an immediate 30-day suspension, 14-day impound, and penalties up to $10,000.
